Baton Rouge, LA – September 29, 2024 – STEM Baton Rouge, in collaboration with the Colleges of Science & Engineering at Southern University and A&M College- Baton Rouge and STEM Global Action , hosted an incredible STEM Fest yesterday at the F.G. Clark Activity Center (SU Mini Dome). Sponsored by Southern University and A&M College and Louisiana State Representative Vanessa Caston LaFleur , this inaugural event attracted approximately 700 students from grades K-12 for a day filled with hands-on STEM activities designed to inspire the next generation of innovators.
The event kicked off with an inspiring address from Dr. Lealon L. Martin , Dean of the Southern University College of Science and Engineering, who welcomed participants, parents, and volunteers. His words set the stage for a festival brimming with exploration and discovery.
With over 60 interactive STEM activities executed by STEM Global Action, students had the opportunity to dive into the fascinating worlds of science, technology, engineering, and math. With interactive hands-on activity including flying drones, sheep lungs, coding workshops, and robotics challenges, each station aimed to spark creativity and cultivate problem-solving skills among young minds.

With a significant 71% of participants qualifying for free or reduced lunch, the event highlighted its commitment to accessibility and inclusivity in STEM education.
Community Engagement
STEM Fest was not just an event; it was a community celebration, including 74 college students and 37 professional volunteers who contributed 333 hours of mentorship. Their dedication underscores the importance of fostering a culture of support and collaboration in STEM fields.
A Legacy of Impact
Since its inception in 2013 by Dr. Calvin Mackie and his wife Tracy Mackie , STEM NOLA | STEM Global Action has engaged over 160,000 participants nationwide, igniting a passion for STEM learning across diverse communities. This Baton Rouge STEM Fest continued that legacy, emphasizing hands-on experiences that not only educate but also empower students to envision their futures in STEM careers.
