Steelcon News: Special Year in Review Edition
Steelcon Group of Companies
At Steelcon, everything we do, we do to make your job easier.
As we approach the end of another remarkable year, it’s the perfect time to reflect on our achievements and growth. This year, we tackled ambitious projects, reinforced our commitment to safety and quality, and led the industry in sustainability. Through every milestone, we’ve stayed true to our values of executing projects with precision, enhancing our capabilities, and pushing the boundaries of innovation. Here’s a look back at some of the highlights of 2024.
EXECUTING WITH PRECISION AND COMMITMENT
This year, we completed some of the most ambitious projects in Steelcon’s history, installing more than 84,000 US tons of structural steel across Canada and the U.S., with each project contributing to communities and skylines in meaningful ways. Our deck installation and miscellaneous metals divisions expanded their reach, with more than 5.5 million square feet of deck installed and $14.5 million in miscellaneous metals contracts secured. We achieved a remarkable $265 million in overall sales, further solidifying our position as a market leader.
Sustainability took center stage this year as we published a Type III Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for SIN Beam. This process enabled us to refine our supply chain and within six months, we republished the EPD with a 50% reduction in Global Warming Potential, proving that it’s possible to prioritize sustainability without sacrificing quality, performance, or price. We also published Canada’s first product-specific EPD for Open Web Steel Joists and Joist Girders, underscoring our commitment to transparency and sustainable practices.
Our commitment to excellence was further validated with our AISC Building Fabricator recertification at the Georgia facility. And our new Rusholme joist production facility achieved their certification from the Canadian Welding Bureau for CSA W47.1 - Division: 2 / structural steel fabrication. These achievements ensure our safety, quality, and fabrication standards remain among the best in the industry.
ENHANCING CAPABILITIES AND STRENGTHENING OUR TEAM
In 2024, we expanded our operational capacity while reinforcing our commitment to team development and community support. Operationally, we increased our shop capacity through additional space, equipment upgrades, and extra shifts. We enhanced our leadership team with key positions and invested in the development of future leaders to ensure we have the in-house talent necessary for continued growth. A realignment of our Quality Management structure further solidified our commitment to delivering the highest quality standards across our business.
Through our partnership with Skills Ontario, we empowered individuals with the necessary skills and training to enter the skilled trades workforce, reinforcing our dedication to building a robust team and a strong foundation for Ontario’s skilled trades industry.
The Steelcon Safety Excellence Awards debuted at our Canadian production facilities, recognizing team members who embody our dedication to safety. Their example sets a high standard for all of us and highlights the importance of a safe work environment. And our community spirit was on full display during the St. Catharines/Welland Dunk Tank Fundraisers, where we raised funds for The Hope Centre, a local charity dedicated to essential community services, reflecting our employees’ commitment to positively impacting our communities.

INNOVATING FOR THE FUTURE
Innovation was a cornerstone of 2024 as we continued to push the boundaries of what’s possible in construction. Our patent-pending SIN Floor achieved a three-hour fire resistance rating, ensuring rigorous safety and performance standards while we work diligently to secure International Code Council (ICC) approval for widespread use. In collaboration with McMaster University, we have begun testing SIN Floor panels to explore their performance under various conditions, further underscoring our commitment to research and excellence.
We strengthened our vertical integration strategy with the installation of our new Metal Deck line at our Rusholme facility, giving us a level of certainty and control of the process that allows us to continue providing exceptional service to clients while ensuring that the highest quality product is delivered on schedule.
Our innovative use of SIN Beam on the Prologis Evergreen project—the first mass timber-constructed warehouse in North America—demonstrated our ability to combine materials like steel and timber for strength and sustainability. At Project Northstar, we implemented a modular erection process to accelerate joist installation, demonstrating our ability to adapt, optimize, and streamline operations. By assembling full bays of joists on the ground and lifting them as a single module, we achieved new levels of efficiency and precision.
In 2024, we also set the stage for a digitally advanced future, and we are now well positioned to advance our digital transformation strategy with AI-driven workflows, predictive insights, and real-time production optimizations that will allow us to continue meeting the evolving needs of our clients while delivering unparalleled service.
LEADING THE WAY
As we close another remarkable year, it’s clear that together we can overcome challenges, achieve the impossible, and set new standards for excellence. Every project, milestone, and innovation this year has moved us forward in fulfilling our mission to shape a stronger, more sustainable future for our employees, communities, and industry. Looking ahead, we remain committed to leading with purpose and ingenuity, guided by our dedication to our clients and our people.
Thank you for being an essential part of Steelcon’s journey. Together, we’re not just building structures — we’re building a legacy.
