How To Write A LinkedIn Post That Gets You Noticed
Is It Worth It? Why Bother Getting 1,000 - 500,000+ Views On A Post?
There are gurus out there who will go much further. They will show you how to get far more views than I have achieved for myself or the people I coach.
But there are some things I am personally not comfortable with. Yes, be authentic, but please for your own sake, avoid "fake authenticity".
And in my humble opinion, don't "brown-nose" the LinkedIn superstars. This is where you tag somebody like Bill Gates or the Brigitte's or Oleg's of this world (i.e. people with hundreds of thousands or millions of followers).
Sometimes you may hit the jackpot. And they do give you a token "like" which sends your post viral.
But have you sold your soul and diluted what you have to say just to achieve vanity views?
Say Something Worthwhile - Learning To Be Yourself
"Learning To Be Yourself"? Okay, that sounds weird. Until you actually admit to yourself that you wear different hats and adopt different personalities depending on who you are with.
Would you be your "beer-chugging, karaoke-singing, Greek-meal plate-smashing" self in the boardroom? Or at a semi-formal family gathering with your aunts and uncles present?
Or flip it. Would you put on your corporate suit and talk business jargon on a pre-wedding hen or stag party with your friends?
LinkedIn is no longer "boardroom". But neither is it "karaoke" Facebook.
Treat it as a meeting with an old client in Starbucks. You wouldn't talk shop the whole meeting. But neither would you talk business all the time either.
Would You Only Turn On The TV When The Ads Were Showing?
I know the answer. Unless dear reader you are really weird. You want the TV show right? Or the movie?
And that's the problem!!!!
So many people publish "adverts". They jump on their soapbox and say "please buy my widgets - they're great!".
Now, imagine if the LinkedIn algorithm allowed those "ads" to seep through (they don't by the way - quite rightly).
You wouldn't bother coming back would you? You want to see stuff in your feed that interests you. That's why you need to write posts that resonate with your audience.
And thanks to the LinkedIn algorithm, that's what you see.
If you don't, to be frank you're wasting your time.
Shall We Just Cut To The Chase And Cut Out The BS?
The 27-page guide I wrote teaches you how to attract clients without selling.
I would hate to see you continue to post stuff that won't be seen by people because the LinkedIn algorithm - QUITE RIGHTLY in my view, stops it being spread.
I mean would you buy a newspaper full of ads?
Instead, figure out how to attract people by writing stuff that they want to see.
It's not that hard.

6 年Great article and I fully agree. I get annoyed by sales posts and first I want to get to know someone before I am interested in their products! People buy from people!

6 年Good article, Ian! Thanks for sharing! Didn’t realize posting stuff that is not crafted by ourselves is gains less traction than posts/articles we write ourselves.
