Steal This Discipline And Put ?????? On Your Bottom Line.

This week's edition of the Restaurant Growth Playbook is built around a key discipline I have had in restaurants that I have operated for years.


A discipline I do every quarter with Auden Hospitality


A discipline you should steal.


It is built around The Eisenhower Decision Theory that helps you to distinguish between tasks.


So what is the discipline?


Every quarter, I take my P&L and the nominals for the quarter and export them into Excel.


Putting every expense in one of four categories.


I guarantee, every quarter, I have at least one expense in each section


This is where I save money on my bottom line, every time!


I put my expenses into the following categories;

  1. Essential - business critical.

2. Has impact but is not essential.

3. Not needed & but can have an impact.

4. Not used & not essential.


This is my logic

  1. Can't run the business without it
  2. It a nice to have when things are going well, I wouldn't miss it when they aren't
  3. Same as two
  4. If you don't use it, and don't need it, cut it


It amazes me that every time I do this exercise


I find costs that sit in categories 2, 3 & 4 (especially as a Yorkshireman!)


and cutting them out saves me money on my bottom line.


As we move into Q2, 2023, steal this discipline and see where you can improve your bottom line.
