Staying Steady During Turbulence

Staying Steady During Turbulence

As our collective hearts break for the innocent people of Ukraine, we here in the United States will also feel the impact of this turbulent time for our world. I am forced to think back to the worst plane ride of my life. The weather on which was so bad that I considered ditching my connecting flight and paying for a $200 train ticket from Newark to Boston. Shaking, I decided to board my final flight (which if you've ever flown from NY/NJ to Boston you know is a quick trip) and prayed to whatever gods were listening to keep me safe.?

We took off and...it was fine. Better than fine -- it was a smooth ride. I landed in Boston a little less shaky and glad I stuck with my plan.?

All of that is to say: I cannot look into my crystal ball to tell you what the next several months or even years will look like. But I do know history has proven time and time again that, through stormy weather, the ships that stay steady on their course arrive at the harbor in the end. Think of how many natural disasters, pandemics, and yes, even wars our world has seen in the past century.?

If your use of the stock market is to grow your money over time with the goal to beat naturally occurring inflation, then ultimately the war in Ukraine will be only a blip in your long-term strategy. And while we should do all we can to support the innocent people of Ukraine, it’s also a good time to remember that the markets come with risk as much as reward. This is where having a balanced strategy can protect you against fluctuations.?

If you don’t feel your strategy is balance or you’re uncertain it can hold up under all circumstances, let's schedule a time to discuss your concerns.?

Stay strong. Turn off the news when you need to. And keep on the course.
