Staying Safe In A Digital World, Unlocking The Power Of Gen Z For A Brighter Tomorrow, And A Nod To Excellence

Technology Corner?

It’s almost October and Halloween scares are not the only thing on the docket. It is also the month in which there is heightened awareness around cyber scares. Yep, it’s Cybersecurity Awareness Month, once again, and local governments and municipalities have a vital role to play in safeguarding sensitive data, public services, and building trust and transparency among residents. Throughout the month of October, we will be bringing you useful information on the measures governments need to take to protect their organization, their staff, and their residents from cyber threats. ?We begin by calling your attention to three pillars of cybersecurity: Single Sign-On (SSO), the importance of stronger passwords, and recognizing phishing threats. ?

?1. Single Sign-On (SSO): Simplify Access, Fortify Security??

Single Sign-On (SSO) is a game-changer for local government cybersecurity. It allows users to access multiple applications and systems with a single set of credentials. It centralizes control and prevents unauthorized access and data breaches.?

2. Stronger Passwords: Empower Citizens with Knowledge??

Citizens are key stakeholders in the cybersecurity efforts of government. Promoting the use of stronger passwords is a vital step in safeguarding digital interactions with local government and ensuring services are secure with utmost priority to data integrity. They protect against various forms of attack and minimize the risk of credential stuffing.??

3. Recognizing Phishing: Stay Ahead of Deceptive Threats??

Phishing attacks are a persistent threat. Local governments must ensure its employees and citizens can spot these deceptive tactics through education and forums. Phishing attacks often involve deceptive emails, messages, or websites designed to trick you into revealing personal or financial information. To stay ahead of these deceptive threats requires a good understanding of what they are and taking the steps necessary to avoid them. A few things you can do: verify the sender’s email address, check for generic greetings, don’t click suspicious links, and avoid downloading suspicious attachments.?

Stay tuned to our social channels and our website throughout October for a more in-depth look at the above topics, as well as insights on other important issues around cybersecurity.?
