Staying Patient and Strong Together

These are the words that I shared with my team earlier this morning.

KIND Team,

As we await the results of our Presidential Election, you may be feeling anxious about this period of uncertainty and polarization. I certainly am. Remember that you have a supportive family here at KIND. I am proud of our team’s commitment to civic engagement and democracy.

The fact that a clear winner has yet to be determined does not necessarily mean that the system is not working. We expected mail-in ballots to take longer to count – and it’s more important that elections officials get results right than that they get them fast. Because state laws determine how ballots are counted, it is normal to see lags in certain states – some of which are particularly consequential to the outcome of the election.

As we wait, we may hear predictions from media who will attempt to forecast a winner, but it is important to avoid speculation and remain patient. Please seek credible news sources and be wary of dubious claims, on social media in particular.

Regardless of who wins this election, it is clear that our nation is deeply divided. Our task as a nation is to try to bridge those gaps to retain our strength as the United States of America. All of us must defend our Constitution and our democracy, while supporting one another with kindness and respect. Especially if you do not agree with someone else’s views, this is the time to assume positive intent wherever possible and dig deep for the empathy our country needs.
