Staying Motivated During Your #JobSearch

Here’s the reality for anyone actively on the market for new opportunities: you’ll face rejections, barriers, setbacks, non-responses, ghosting – everything along the spectrum over the course of your #JobSearch. It won’t always be easy – but how many blows can one take before it starts to weigh you down and effect your attitude? How do you show up to #interviews all excited and enthusiastic and energetic when you’ve been kicked in the face more than a handful of times?
There’s no easy answer to this. I face setbacks all the time as a #Recruiter – not the exact same ones as you do as a #JobSeeker, but very similar ones! So here’s what you can do to keep moving forward despite the setbacks:
1) Always keep a full pipeline. No matter how promising the #interview went, keep on looking, applying and connecting with whoever you need to in order to get meetings. Keep searching for new opportunities like you have none.
2) Keep taking action. Here’s the reality – no matter how down and out you and I may feel, we need to continue taking action despite the direction our emotions may sway. This can be difficult and challenging, however I guarantee you’ll feel good about yourself if you stay the course and keep doing what you need to do to get those phone calls and #interview requests.
3) Take a different approach. Sometimes, all that’s really need is a fresh new approach. Take some time to evaluate what you can do at your end to change or switch things up or make an improvement in some part of your process – then put it into action and try it out. Rinse and repeat.
4) Use multiple channels. Its easy to get stuck on one channel for your results during your #JobSearch. Mix a variety of sources into your #JobSearch strategy and divide your day or whatever time frame you’re able to in regards to using each avenue.
5) Keep selling yourself on YOU. Look, when you face enough let-downs and rejections, you’ll start doubting yourself and your worth. Quit doing that! Instead – review your own resume/CV, go over each of your projects, remind yourself of the value you added at an individual, team and company level. Go through your certifications. Go through your awards. If you have trophies – take them out and look at them. Dust off those recommendation letters you received – read them, see how highly past managers have spoken about you. Whatever happens, you need to stay sold on YOU and YOUR value - and constantly remind yourself of it!
This last point is the most important one, folks - if you don't do anything else, do #5. Because guess what? If YOU aren't sold on the value you bring, how are you going to sell others on it?
No matter the setbacks, always remind yourself of the level of value you bring to the table!
Long story short – no matter how you feel and how much setbacks you face during your #JobSearch, keep moving forward, keep moving toward what you want and keep taking action!
