Happy New Year
Christmas and New Year days no doubt the best time to indulge and pamper yourself but just don’t overindulge.
Is it too late? Have already done the overeating?
No worries, we are here to help you out. What’s done is done, but now you need to make a promise to yourself and say a big no to all the unhealthy eating habits. Otherwise, you will have to face some serious consequences, but we do not want that to happen so let’s start right away. We won’t spoil your festivities of the season but will give you some guidelines to get through the period without too much impact on your health and waistline.
So here’s to some of the top tips we have for you.
Start with a good breakfast
Begin your day with a generous bowl of porridge topped with fruits and nuts and sprinkled some cinnamon. This is a good breakfast because porridge stabilizes blood sugar levels, which gives you a feeling of fullness and you are likely to eat less later in the day. If during the party season you think you have done a lot of unhealthy eating coupled with few hours of sleep, add a bowl of yoghurt to your breakfast. It will boost your immune system.
Stay hydrated
Even mild hydration can cause headaches so maintaining your fluid intake is vital. Make a conscious effort of drinking 6-8 glasses of water along with herbal teas and fresh juice. No doubt regular tea and coffee count towards your fluid intake but caffeinated drinks should not be considered solely to maintain the level of fluid intake. Nothing can replace the water so make sure it contributes the most towards maintaining a healthy balance.
Sensible snacking
If you think you cannot stop yourself from eating at the parties, go for a pre-party snack. You can have a small bowl of yoghurt with a sliced banana or some strawberries, toast with peanut butter on it, a cup of milk or a bowl of vegetable soup. These are healthy snacks that will keep you satisfied for a good amount of time.
Back away from the buffet
Buffets can be a dangerous zone for they make you eat more than you need. If for some reason you cannot miss it, just be careful while eating. Try to fill half your plate with salad and vegetables and the rest with protein for instance fish or chicken. Once your plate is ready, move away from the table, or you will be tempted to eat more.
Don’t sit down all-day
We know your favourite shows will be airing on the TV, but you don’t have to sit on the sofa all day. Go out for a walk or some sort of exercise, ideally after the dinner to aid digestion and burn all the excess calories. The more activity, the better it is for you so get yourself involved in outdoor activities.
Don’t stress
Don’t worry if you have gained some weight. The Christmas season normally does that, and you also deserve a little break from your monotonous routine. Rather than stressing out, make a diet plan and promise yourself that you will think before eating. Smart thinking is all you need to shred these few pounds.
These tips are purposely kept basic to get you started immediately. It is now time that you realize how important it is to stay healthy otherwise you can get in trouble. We don’t want to scare you, but we care so have come up with the easiest tips that you can start without any difficulty. To encourage you further let’s look at the possible consequences of not staying healthy
