Staying in a challenging industry
Yesterday I have received one of the award that i didn't expect to be so soon (my 1st year in Huttons Asia Pte Ltd, who have 3300+ sales person). This shows that in this industry, everyone are facing challenges in making a good income. In top 300 producers, meaning top 10% of the company... I am some how worried after receiving this award. Are the rest still in this trade or market?
Keeping the pace
Many of us (salesperson) are emotionally attached towards News from our media, last year have a lot of news that telling us that its time to find new jobs. To be frank, i am also one of them at the beginning. What keeping me the pace of gaining confidence back in this challenging market, it is DISCIPLINE. What do i mean discipline? Isn't it for people in the National Services? Or in school? What i meant is SELF-DISCIPLINE.
Self-Discipline - Keep Low Cost
First thing we have to look at in our trades or business, EXPENSES. I realise that in our trade, we can be making lots of commissions, at the same time, spent a lot on our marketing cost. How do we control our business expenses? To be frank, we need to be a CEO of our own self, we have to learn from the real top CEOs too. Do you know recent retrenchment rate has went up? Finance sectors especially. So why do you want to choose to find a JOB? As employees can be out of job any time when they find that its time to cut cost. In exchange of cost, its TIME.
Self-Discipline - Time vs Cost
I believe in LEVERAGING when the time in 2009. However it only work on GOOD time market. We depend a lot of other people strength, and we work the least to get the fastest result. However, in this challenging market, trust me, we have lots of TIME when activities have come slower. Meaning the cost can be cut down, and work on yourselves more. What should be corrected in this market trend is to either UPGRADE your knowledge, CREATE more added-value services, FIND the right buyers/sellers that appreciate your service.
Simple way of creating Self-Discipline - Discipline Deck
I have a weekly tasks that i practice it, which is to write 5 things at the start of the weeks. What are the things i wrote? Can be close a deal, make 100 phone calls, meeting new salesperson, even rewarding myself if fulfilling all tasks, or keep myself healthy by going for run, keep updated in market news daily, etc. These tasks can be written on cards that i bought, i have a deck of 5 different colours for me to write in different colour each week. When i see my desk have lesser and lesser card, i felt i have achieve my goals every week. When it pilled up, i work double hard to clear my cards as if its not clear at the end of the week, i have 5 more new tasks to add on. This is my DISCIPLINE DECK which i keep my pace in this challenging industry.
