Staying Centered During Election Week: Finding Calm Amid Chaos

Staying Centered During Election Week: Finding Calm Amid Chaos

As my American friends head into a federal election this week, tension feels high on both sides of the political spectrum.

?

Both sides appear so divided and entrenched in their political views.

?

And there has been so much lead up over the past few years to get us to this very week, where the whole world is watching.

?

It's easy to feel anxious, worried, or apprehensive about what is to come.

?

At times I notice myself slipping into these states of worry when I think about what could happen.

?

And then I catch myself –?

?

I remember:

?

If I am thinking about what could happen, I am experiencing thoughts about the future that are just that – thoughts.

?

Thoughts are not reality. They are tricks of the mind, wandering into imaginary futures.?

?

The mind likes to imagine all possible scenarios so that it can attempt to plan for what may be coming. This all happens because the mind wants to feel safe.

?

However, how the mind acts and how life happens is very different.

?

Have you ever been in a crisis situation and you simply knew what you had to do to respond in the moment?

?

This is because we are fully equipped to respond to life as it unfolds.

?

Life is unfolding moment by moment.

?

If you find your mind wandering into thoughts of the future and what could happen, remind yourself:

?

Thoughts about the future are simply that – thoughts.

?

And if this week’s election results do not match your vision for life, remember:

?

We are designed to respond to life in the moment.

?

You will know what to do.

?

Trust yourself.

?

Trust life.

?

You’ve got this,

?

Thanks Tracey Gazel and yes, many are exhausted by US elections. That said, Constitution over Party, democracy first.
