Civic space protections are vital for maintaining the health and integrity of democratic societies. However, in recent years, restrictions on peaceful assembly, censorship of dissenting voices, and legal barriers hindering the operation of NGOs have become increasingly common. By safeguarding the rights of civil society actors, we uphold the principles of freedom and democracy, allowing diverse voices to contribute to public discourse and policy-making. We're continuing to share interviews with our 2024 RFK Education Award Winners, held each year in partnership with Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights to celebrate incredible school leaders, teachers, and students. Today, we're excited to share this conversation with Jason Boll, teacher at Perry Traditional Academy and partner teacher for the?Justice Scholars Institute at the University of Pittsburgh School of Education. "It's a huge responsibility. It's a huge trust that the public and most specifically, parents, put on teachers. I spend 180 days with the same kid. That time is not lost on me, just the amount of growth that takes place for a 15 to 18 year old person over 180 days. The most fulfilling part is just seeing somebody grow up and watching them change and iterate and make different decisions. It's a constant reminder to me of what it was like to be in high school. But it's also really powerful to be a firsthand observer of that process. The most fulfilling part is watching kids and helping kids grow, both academically and personally, as they've gone through that." Read the full interview: https://lnkd.in/dxscwQaB
