As of December 8, 2020, it became mandatory for building owners and accounting officers to obtain and display an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) for their eligible buildings by December 7, 2025. This regulation is crucial for promoting energy efficiency and sustainability in our buildings.

Important Deadline: Building Data Registration The Regulation for Compulsory Registration and Submission of EPC was amended on August 3, 2023. By August 2, 2024, all building owners and accounting officers must register the type and size of their buildings. The data used to determine the EPC, along with a certified electronic copy, must be submitted to the South African National Energy Development Institute (SANEDI) and will be uploaded to the National Building Energy Performance Register (NBEPR).
Non-Compliance Risks: Failing to publicly display your EPC could result in a fine of up to R5 million and/or imprisonment, as per the National Energy Act (Act No. 34 of 2008).
