Stay Calm!

For the majority of Ghanaians, the rest of today, and the coming days will be about the results from the just ended 2020 elections.

Like every contest, there will be winners and losers. There will be analysis of results and what could or should have been. There will be allegations and counter-allegations, concessions and inaugurations.

People will accept their fate and we can get back to business and a good Christmas (I hope).

So for those whose candidates are winning, congratulations! If your candidate loses, take it that it is only half time in a football match or round 1 in a boxing contest, four years will come sooner than you think.

For the citizenry, elections need not be a zero-sum game. We hold the power to appoint and disappoint and every four years, we exercise that power. Our politics needs to evolve to the point that irrespective of who is in power, a national development agenda is pursued that benefits current and future generations. I am hopeful we will get there soon enough.

Until then, wherever you stand on the political divide, remain calm and hopeful. Ghana is a maturing democracy and a beacon of hope to many developing countries thanks to our collective will. We have done this many times, and we will continue to shine the light for others.

Have a fruitful week.
