Preparing for any event can be a stressful task. However, preparation is key to making the event impactful and effective.

How do you plan any event? You identify the activities to be done, assign roles and responsibilities to appropriate people, make a schedule, and do regular follow-ups to make it successful. However, a fundamental activity which I have personally learned through various experiences is Mock Run.

An amazing method to envisage how the event will go. Imagine you are planning for an important celebration event wherein your company's MD or a senior person is going to come. If you plan in your mind and do not put emphasis on mock run, believe me, it can bring a nightmare. The event may not go as per the plan, and you may get a few surprises which could have been tackled if envisaged beforehand. The uncontrollable and sudden change of plan or emergencies sometimes cannot be dealt with beforehand.

Now, if you are convinced enough to explore, let's see how you can do the mock run. There are two ways. The first one and the ideal way are to go to the venue with a few team members before a few days as per the situation and start the process. Step by step going through the schedule and enacting the situation of an event day. Believe me, you will definitely get a few issues and suggestions to refine the process. I have personally gone through such sample mock/test run processes and saw amazing results.

It is simple yet an effective way to control the situation to some extent. It can be applied to many use cases other than events like product launches, business pitches, sales meetings, etc.
