A recent study conducted by National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), where they polled a sample of over 2000 individuals, including executives, in companies sizing over 100 employees revealed that:
???? 74% of employees said they felt is was acceptable to discuss mental health issues at work?
???? 77% said they would be comfortable if their colleagues discussed them?
???? 86% said they felt they could be themselves at work?
And yet….
???? only 58% said they would feel comfortable talking about their own mental health
???? 50% said they felt burned out at work
???? 27% said they considered quitting because of how their employment was affecting their mental health?
They quoted stigma, judgement and not seeing others talk about it as main reasons for not speaking about themselves.?
And when it comes to the leadership team or managers? ?
???? 70% of managers or executives have not received training to address mental health?
???? 75% of employees felt these leaders were responsible for creating a safe environment to address these concerns
Time to stop walking on eggshells and address the elephant in the room?: the stats don't lie - addressing mental health and wellbeing is imperative.

Why is it an imperative that we focus and invest on addressing this and supporting employees?
In Solish words (national director of NAMI’s office of innovation): “Investing in employee mental health is not just the right thing to do, it’s also an investment in the economic health of an organization” . “If people are uncomfortable about talking about mental health and uncomfortable seeking services and support, then they become more burned out, and that is going to hurt the organization. Mental health has a direct impact on a company’s success or failure.”
How to help:
We have seen this in the companies we work with: employees disconnected, disengaged, lacking confidence and/or a clear direction…; this is where working with a qualified trainer can help provide not only the perspective needed to reinvigorate the workforce, but the safe space, techniques and knowledge to do so and sustain it.?
Like our work at Sonovate, where an HR Director returning to work after maternity leave and going through our course and 1:1 coaching got promoted to Chief People Officer shortly after.?Helping with
Or our work at Disney, where a room filled with employees working at the same business unit, but not having really interacted with each other before, got them connecting and bonding with each other or introducing techniques to create more engaging and efficient meetings still used to this date.?Helping with
Are your employees open to speak about mental health? What could companies do to help support their employees?
