A static vessel that transfers us from one place to another - The Highcon 3D printer design process
Highcon an Israeli provider of digital cutting and creasing solutions developed a revolutionary technology of 3D printing, using sheets of paper to create big solid objects, fast and cheap.
The Goal was to expose their new technology to the world in the Drupa exhibition in Germany, and we have been asked to design their new machine. They didn't want another machine, only something very different which will express the uniqueness of their technology, its elegance and the impact it will have on the industry.
We asked ourselves: Is it a machine? Is it art? Is it architecture? A product?
The answer was yes to all these questions. We felt it was also a vessel that transfers us from one place to another, not physically, but metaphorically. That was the spirit of our design.
