Statement of Purpose (S.O.P.):??A Guide to SOP

Before explaining to you what a Sop is, it is important to understand that SOP can be a game-changer aspect for your application. A Sop is a kind of essay of around 800-1200 words (Recommended), that explains why an applicant should be given admission to a particular university, for his desired course.?

Many of you might have heard, that someone got admission from the top university despite not having a suitable profile, or someone declined from a university despite having a well-suited profile. The reason behind it is the Statement of Purpose.?

You know guys, there are thousands of application come across the world to the university, right? So what's special you have, on the basis of which you are seeking admission to a specific university. These genuine explanations, a university expects from the applicants, based on their previous academics, their vision, and future goals.


Importance of SOP?:?

SOP has been given high importance because it reflects the vision of an applicant, who has applied for a specific course in a specific University. In simple words, this is a more personal level explanation of your vision and your overall profile, your career goals, etc. A decent SOP also reflexes, how well you can convey your thoughts using your writing skills. Always keep in mind guys, A SOP is a decision-making factor for your application.


How to draft SOP well?:?

I personally believe that writing an SOP is not that much difficult, as it seems to be. If you are expressing your thoughts truly while writing the sop, along with focus and proper following the skeleton then it becomes comparatively easy.?So, Guys, I am sharing with you some techniques to write a sop.

A general approach you can go through to write SOP is paragraph-wise.

Para 1 -?Introduction:

You can start an SOP by sharing a famous quote or anecdote, that developed your interest in a particular subject, this is a very decent way to build an introduction.

Look at the screenshot, of an SOP, you can see, the candidate has provided the inspiration behind pursuing this program, and a formal introduction of himself along with his family, occupations, and his interests.





Para 2-3 -?Academic background and professional Experiences:

This paragraph should contain your academic background along with your professional experiences, also the industrial training (if any), project you have worked on. In this, you should be accountable briefly if there's any major diversion you have taken related to your academics or profession.

Para 4 -?Why this course?:?

you should be specified in this section, that what inspired you to continue your further study in a subject, and how this course can help you to achieve your dreams in the future.

Para 5 -?Career Goals:?

Career goals and the future vision can be described here, along with some specific information, like if someone wants to get into a job, then he should mention the dream company name, why that company, seeing oneself after some years, types of information.

Para 6 -?Why this University?:?

Herein you can convey a message, that why this university is best suitable for you and how you are an ideal candidate for the university. You can also mention some positives of the university that you appreciate like, course- curriculum, faculty names, and some university-specific activities.

Para 7 -?Conclusion Statements?:?

This is the last section of your SOP but not the least, in this section, the university must get convinced about your readiness to join this program. You should also sound like you are ready to face all the challenges that come your way, during the entire journey of the course.


Important things that University expect In SOP :?

It should be kept in mind that, admission Committee reviews thousands of applications, for the specific course, so while drafting the SOP an applicant has to be, very genuine and precise in their profile. Here are few things that committee generally expect in an SOP.

>?It reflects your writing skills, that how well you can convey your thoughts and profile to the committee, in the form of SOP.?The language you used there, should be lucid and contains good vocabulary, and free from grammatical errors. There should not be the usage of too much heavy and complicated words.?

> Based on your Interest, previous qualifications, and professional experiences how you can contribute to a particular university, like how would the university be benefitted from your kick start career, after getting an admit.

> Inspiration or motivation should be specified to pursue these courses, and your thoughts should reflect your attitude to handle all the challenges during the courses, project, and research work.?

> What can be your future goals and how your chosen course will help you to attain your dreams. Also, it should be clarified that why you have chosen this university and this particular course. This justifies that a candidate has gone through research and not just applying randomly.
