Statement on Paul Laxalt

Paul Laxalt was a towering figure both in Nevada politics and the everyday lives of all Nevadans. His oversight of the modernization of the gaming industry led to a regulatory model that is the gold standard throughout the world. He was also a man who knew that education was key to the development of a robust, sustainable community. He not only fought to establish the state’s first community college system, he also worked to create the state’s first medical school. Paul Laxalt’s dedication to the environment, and support for the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, not only helped to clean Lake Tahoe, but ensured the protection of our natural resources. 

Along with his legacy of accomplishments, the impact of Mr. Laxalt’s character and integrity will be felt for generations. His unique personal style, always empathetic and supportive, will be treasured by all who met him throughout his remarkable life. Our thoughts are with his wife, Carol, their children and the entire Laxalt family.
