The State of Omni-channel Retail in India-Is it Time yet ?

Omni-channel is the most talked about buzzword by the retailers in India today. With the ever increasing customer expectations and ever changing purchasing patterns, it’s a huge risk if you plan not implement any omni channel retail solution for your brand.

But where exactly is India as far as the omni channel landscape is concerned and how do we fare in terms of some of the key omni channel retail trends?

I have my own doubts about Omni Channel retailing in India for another few years for these reasons - In Forrester survey, top 10 companies, 7 are eCommerce companies. Ecommerce is fueled mainly by attractive pricing and in some cases, convenience. Barring few eComm like Myntra or FirstCry, none of the eComm companies are setting up physical stores (real estate price is very high as one of the barriers), Physical stores (BigBazaar and Reliance, DMart) are not promoting online as they see strength in their physical model ie odds with eComm companies. Another reason 75-80% of India's retail happens in unorganized retail (Jewelry would probable in top 3)and they invest little in technology. To become Omni Channel a reality...you need to invest in technology, and focus on professional management
