For the past three months, I worked at State Farm as a Product Line Management Intern. This experience has been incredibly rewarding, and I would like to share some key takeaways and highlights from my time at this remarkable company.

Technical Skills?

During my internship at State Farm, I had the privilege of engaging with various departments, which provided a rich learning experience. I became proficient in using agile workflows and managing sprints, which enhanced my task management skills. Interacting with underwriters and analysts gave me insights into the specialized systems and tools utilized at State Farm.

I also gained hands-on experience with monitoring tools for data modeling, conducted comprehensive market research, and leveraged Excel for data analysis. Additionally, I learned to use dashboards effectively to present data-driven narratives. These experiences collectively broadened my understanding of the insurance industry and sharpened my technical and analytical skills.

Achievements?

During my time at State Farm, I was assigned to work on two significant projects. Through diligent effort and collaboration, I successfully developed comprehensive reports and formulated well-reasoned recommendations for my superiors on both projects. This process enhanced my analytical skills and reinforced my ability to make informed decisions. One of the highlights of my internship was the opportunity to present my work during a showcase event. I provided project updates to several different teams, which greatly improved my presentation skills and taught me how to prepare effectively for large-scale presentations. This experience was invaluable, as it boosted my confidence in public speaking and allowed me to communicate complex ideas clearly and concisely. Moreover, I had the chance to interact with upper-level management, gaining valuable insights into their approach to leadership and receiving advice on career development. These interactions were incredibly inspiring and provided a broader perspective on the strategic decisions that drive the company. Being part of collaborative teams was particularly rewarding. Our collective efforts were often recognized and appreciated by our colleagues, fostering a supportive and motivating work environment. I am incredibly grateful to my mentors and manager at State Farm for their unwavering support and guidance. This internship has taught me several important lessons. Working in Agile Sprints requires dedication and efficiency, a new approach compared to the more relaxed pace of college and school. Learning to manage these skills has helped me complete tasks promptly and effectively. Additionally, contributing to productive work and being well-informed during meetings proved essential for meaningful participation and collaboration.

This experience has prepared me for future roles in several ways. I've honed my networking skills by facing people from different backgrounds daily and developed a strong network as well as skills that will be very beneficial going forward.

Memorable Moments

Some of the most memorable moments were during the first couple of weeks when everything was brand new to me, and I was trying to figure out how to do simple tasks, which seemed so confusing at the time. The welcoming environment made it exciting to come to work every day and get to know my colleagues.
