Alabama declared a state of emergency after an explosion and fire on the Colonial Pipeline. One worker was killed and five injured. The Colonial Pipeline is the biggest fuel pipeline in the US and delivers about one third of the gasoline used by the East Coast. The explosion could affect prices at the pump, and gasoline futures surged to the biggest intraday move in eight years.
Uber is launching a pilot program with GM’s car-sharing service Maven. Through the 90-day test in San Francisco, Uber drivers will be able to rent a GM vehicle for $179 a week. It’s the latest effort from Uber to match drivers with cars — the company also has a partnership with Enterprise and a special leasing program. Recode calls this particular partnership “a bit odd,†though, because it’s encroaching on Lyft’s turf: GM invested $500 million in the Uber rival at the beginning of the year and operates a similar pilot program called Express Drive.

The company predicts that SolarCity could add more than a half billion dollars in cash to Tesla’s balance sheet over the next three years and generate at least $150 million in cost savings in the first full year. Both the blog post and Musk himself called out “naysayers†that had underestimated Tesla and said “it probably would be unwise to trust them again.â€

One shareholder who hasn’t yet commented on the resolution is activist investor Bill Ackman, who unveiled a 9.9% stake in the struggling fast food chain in September. Sources close to Ackman suspect he is also “taking aim at the board.â€
The next iPhone update has a David Bowie emoji (sort of). The next update will have a slew of new profession emojis, including male and female singers inspired by Bowie's Aladdin Sane album cover. They're also adding a prince emoji, but it doesn't look anything like the Purple One.
