A State of Cloud #003

Cloud security is just like putting up a line for a penalty. You try to prevent that the opposite player will score.
As an organisation you work hard to prevent any flaws. Regarding unnecessarily operational costs and security breaches. At the shows I attend related to the Cloud Security topics I see most of the time the headline.
"You can divide organizations in two types. Those who have been hacked, and those who haven't noticed yet, they have been hacked".
This fact, is in my honest opinion not purely addressable to the Cloud Computing infrastructure. In fact, despite the Cloud infrastructure is partly outsourced and consumed as a service, doesn't mean that your risks as potential hacked victim are exponential larger then when you have your infrastructure on-premised. The risks are even higher at your office then in a datacenter facilitate you the cloud services.
Back to the title of this A State of Cloud : Is the current fear for security breaches certified or is it a bit overrated by the companies that sell the Cloud Security solutions and trainings.
In you day by day activities you have learned from the mistakes you made. By using logic common sense, you discover that mistakes are enrich yourself. When it comes to cloud / it security, you fully rely on what the vendor is telling you. Based on figures and statistics you can't verify they aren't made up.
Of course, you need to take precautions and margin the opportunity that cyber criminals can take you as potential target small as possible. But don't overreact to it by limiting your self.
A firewall and two-factor authentication solutions combined with encryption of your most valuable (personal ) data, is all you can do.
And use common sense. If information you pretend to protect is available for everybody else because it's within the public domain, don't worry about it. Learn from how you have been teached by your own education at home.
Put the cutlery in the drawer, your photos and videos which are precious data in a solid fireproofing safe.
And keep breathing.
