The Startup of You Podcast on Career Strategy Episode 1: Network

The Startup of You Podcast on Career Strategy Episode 1: Network

I'm thrilled that the Startup of You podcast , presented by the LinkedIn Podcast Network, is out in the wild!

In our first episode, Reid Hoffman and I talk about building and managing your Network. View the transcript here .

Many professionals are turned off by the idea of “networking.” They think it’s about slimey glad-handing and using others to get ahead. But when pursued with an eye toward leveraging your skills and experiences to help other people succeed, building a professional network becomes something else entirely – a chance at authentic human connection that can fuel enriching relationships and create opportunities over decades.

We break down three common misconceptions about how professional networks function, while also deep-diving on two types of relationships that are essential for success: “Allies” (close collaborators) and “Friendlies” (acquaintances).

Listened and enjoyed the podcast thus far. Refreshing open discussion between two successful entrepreneurs/investors. I'd like to recommend a couple of topics for a future podcast: How to recognize that the venture you are joining is "real" or a business simply riding a wave of hype and the related subject of when to give up on a venture or job? Has the US business world accepted that people stay with employers for shorter lengths of time or is there still a stigma to job hopping? All the best to you and Reid with the Startup of You Podcast.

Yes. Great article Ben Casnocha. "Networking" has gained a bad reputation because of people who have disabused it by making it all about "what can I get from this person" vs "what can I give to this person". We grow our influence and make a difference by being of service to others because "service to others leads to greatness" for everyone.
