STARTUP PRODUCTIVITY HACKS!

STARTUP PRODUCTIVITY HACKS!

“I know for sure that what we dwell on is what we become.”

-Oprah Winfrey.

Introduction

If you’re a startup founder, productivity is the most important thing for your business. If you don’t have the right tools and processes in place, then chances are that your startup will fail. Here, we’ll discuss some of the productivity hacks that one must use every day to keep the focus on what matters the most: our customers!

Less is more!

When it comes to productivity, you have to focus on one task at a time and then execute that task until done. This will help you stay focused and get things done faster than if you were trying to do too many things at once.

Overloading your schedule will make you less effective because along with the time, our energy is also limited. Just like the Pareto principle which states that identify 20% of tasks that generate around 80% of value, and then invest your energy into them.

Know your priorities

Before you start your day, take a few minutes to think about what’s most important. You can do this in several ways:

  • Prioritize tasks based on importance. What are the most urgent things that need to get done? Which ones will have the biggest impact if they’re not completed?
  • Prioritize tasks based on urgency and time. How much time do I have until my next big deadline (or project)? What will it take for me to complete this task once I’m done with everything else today? Will there be any other priority projects that need attention soon after this one is completed?
  • Prioritize tasks based on resources available at present (time and money). If there’s an opportunity for more funding or staff members who could help out with some of these tasks, perhaps now is the best time before we need them later down the line when life gets busy again!

Don’t Multitask

Don’t multitask. If you find yourself trying to do two things at once, stop and evaluate why that’s happening — and make sure your mind isn’t distracted by something else like social media or email (that is, if you’re in a work situation).

Take breaks when needed! If you find yourself getting frustrated with the process of working on something, take a break so that your brain can reset itself and start thinking about the next steps again.

Plan daily, then execute daily

The first step to getting your work done is planning it out. You should plan how you’re going to spend every hour of the day, which can be overwhelming when you’re just starting out or have a lot on your plate. A good way to attack this issue is by making a daily schedule ahead of time and breaking down tasks into bite-sized chunks that can easily be accomplished during the day. For example: If you have a meeting with the investors next week for the discussion of an expansion plan, you can break the tasks into lists like coordinating with the departments for forecasts, preparing the presentation, etc. This way you can prioritize each item according to importance — if one task doesn’t get done because another one comes up first, move them around until everything gets done!

Say ‘No’

When you say no to anything that does not fit in your core priorities, you will free up time and energy for what matters most. This is especially important for startups. Your job as a founder is to find the right people and resources that can help grow your business, but it also means saying “no” sometimes when someone asks for help or advice.
