Data compiled by DealStreetAsia’s Deals Barometer show that dealmaking held up in December despite the funding winter.
In December, Southeast Asian startup fundraising rebounded to $1.22 billion after falling below the psychologically important $1 billion mark in November. However, fundraising is still significantly short of the $1.8 billion seen in December 2021.
In China, meanwhile, there were nine megadeals that took the overall fundraising to above $5.5 billion — the highest in four months. The megadeals alone amassed $3.2 billion, or 58% of the total financing.
India’s startups held up in December raising $1.25 billion, only a tad below the $1.3 billion scooped up in November. On a year-on-year basis, though, Indian startup fundraising was down by more than one-third from $4.86 billion in December 2021.
