Startup and Commissioning 2 x QSK78 G-9 PT ILP & SIL, Lampung

Working abroad while in a pandemic was, so to say, overwhelming. However, we had to give our best we could when it comes to satisfying customers. That was the motive behind ALTRAK team's persistent determination to conduct startup and commissioning of 2 x #Cummins QSK78-G9 at PT Indolampung Perkasa (ILP) and PT Sweet Indolampung (SIL), Tulangbawang, Lampung.

One of the hugest in Cummins' K series, QSK78 population still remained at large. Despite of the rarity, it brought some potentials to thrive in Indonesia's genset market. Controlled by Cummins Power Generation (CPG)’s PowerCommand Control (PCC) 3.3, its outcome of up to 2,400 kVA (standy rating) and 2,200 kVA (prime rating) made it upper-handed toward other engines in their dimension class.

The most prominent challenge faced in this project was uncommon use of plate-and-frame (PHE) heat exchanger and cooling tower--instead of radiator. There were some pros and cons regarding this system, too, but the former outweighed the latter. The heat differential generated by the process was huge (around 15°C) therefore engine could operate 24/7 without concern about immediate overheating.

The commissioning, witnessed by customer, itself went nicely as well. Customers were awe of the engines' capability to operate in such magnitude without any significant problems. After signing minutes of meeting of genset testing, they were given operation and maintenance training to ensure engine would be run properly.

When the startup and commissioning was eventually conducted, there was a sigh of relief from me particularly. In some extent there were some distressing moments, but in the end it was worth a while. Well done.*

P.S.: Special shoutout to Piranti team (Pak Sarno, Pak Anam, Pak Rosyid, etc.) who have endured in this trying times.
