It Starts By Helping One

Since the early months of 2020, when the COVID pandemic resulted in widespread challenges for small businesses across the world, I've been considering starting a pro bono Recruiting/HR services company. I wanted to be a resource to lift up small businesses that are meeting a need in economically disadvantaged communities. And so I finally decided that January 1, 2021 would be day one.

It was a bit overwhelming early on as the demand/need in this kind of undertaking can significantly outpace available time and resources. Then I remembered the words of an unlikely hero who once encouraged us to help those in need by reminding us that, we may not be able to help the masses but we can help one.

I don't have aspirations of growing this practice in numbers - I simply want to do what I can to elevate the efforts of those who might have a need but lack the ability or resources to make it happen. In fact, I still have my day job at the best wireless company in the world, so you won't see scores of announcements and updates about what's going on over at SmithHRGroup. I'll simply be working within my network to identify opportunities where we can help, and will find ways to do that on nights and weekends. I mean, what else would I be doing on the weekends? Binging on Yellowstone? :)

I'm not spending money to create a fancy website ~ in fact, I'm just converting my blog (nextgreathire.com) to a new site - SmithHRGroup - and will use it to help get the word out. And, I'm counting on the greatness of the recruiting family in the DFW area to help me do some of that heavy-lifting via crowdsourcing (hey, Foster Williams, maybe we can do some work on this together, my friend!).

So, if we are connected, don't hesitate to reach out and help bring awareness of those who are serving their communities in challenging situations and could benefit from recruiting and/or HR services. Even if they simply need a hand at telling their stories to the world.

But be ready to lend a hand - I'll likely ask for your help.

It starts by helping one.
