Embarking on a journey of studying abroad is no small feat—it's an adventure filled with challenges, growth, and countless memories. At Shirah, we understand and celebrate the unique path that international students take, and we're here to guide you through the process of transitioning from a student visa to permanent residency.
Charting Your Path to Permanent Residency
As you near the end of your academic journey, the prospect of staying in Canada permanently becomes increasingly enticing. Fortunately, Canada offers several pathways for international students to obtain PR, each tailored to accommodate your unique circumstances and aspirations.?
Two major pathways are the Express Entry route (which is the most common) and through the Provincial Nominee Program,? which we have discussed previously, kindly go through our previous posts to catch up.? The Canadian Experience Class (CEC) is one that only those who studied in Canada along other options can explore.?
?Canadian Experience Class (CEC): ?To qualify for the CEC, you must have acquired at least one year of skilled work experience in Canada within the last three years. through programs like co-op placements, internships, or post-graduation work permits, you may qualify for PR under the Canadian Experience Class. This pathway recognizes your contributions to the Canadian labor market and your potential to thrive as a permanent resident.
After CEC, the process involved with every PR process now begins but you are armed with a CEC advantage. Next is Language Proficiency Requirements: Demonstrating proficiency in English or French is essential for the CEC application.?
Assessment of Skilled Work Experience: The Canadian government assesses your work experience based on the National Occupational Classification (NOC) system. Your job duties and responsibilities must align with those outlined in the NOC matrix for skilled occupations to be considered eligible for the CEC.

Express Entry Profile and Invitation to Apply: To apply for permanent residency under the CEC, you must create an Express Entry profile and indicate your interest in the program. If you meet the eligibility criteria and score high enough in the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), you may receive an invitation to apply for PR.
Submission of PR Application:? Once you receive an invitation to apply, you have a limited time to submit your PR application online. This involves providing supporting documents, such as employment records, educational transcripts, and language test results, to substantiate your eligibility for permanent residency.
Processing of PR Application: After submitting your application, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will assess your candidacy and verify the authenticity of your documents. The processing times for CEC applications can vary, but rest assured that IRCC endeavors to process applications as efficiently as possible.
An extra bonus, Pathway to Citizenship:?
