?? Starting Your Hospitality Career: My Advice for Success ??

?? Your Hospitality Journey: Fuel it with Positivity and Purpose ??

Hospitality is more than just an industry—it’s a dynamic, rewarding career that opens doors to endless opportunities. After over 25 years in this field, here’s the advice I’d share with anyone starting their journey:

1?? Find Your Passion

Don’t be afraid to explore! Hospitality is an industry that allows you to try different roles to discover what excites you, especially in hotels! Along the way, you’ll build a toolkit of transferable skills that can take you anywhere.

2?? Stay Curious and Eager to Learn

Every role, every conversation, and every experience offers a chance to grow. Soak it all up, and don’t stop learning!

3?? Adapt and Embrace Change

Hospitality thrives on innovation and evolution. Things are always changing in hotels! Flexibility and a willingness to adapt will set you apart.

4?? Find Your Tribe

Surround yourself with positive, supportive people—cheerleaders and role models who inspire and uplift you. But don’t stop there—be a cheerleader for others too! One of the greatest joys of working in a hotel is being part of an incredible team. The energy we share and the things we learn from one another every day make this industry truly special. It’s that sense of camaraderie and teamwork that makes hospitality such a rewarding career. ???

5?? Step Up and Show Initiative

Push yourself out of your comfort zone. Take ownership of your work, go the extra mile, and take on challenges - Even when it feels uncomfortable. Being out of your comfort zone can often be where to learn the most and grow.

6?? Stay Positive

The hospitality industry comes with its fair share of challenges, but a resilient and optimistic attitude can transform obstacles into opportunities. We all know the unpredictable nature of day-to-day hotel life—unexpected situations happen! The real skill lies in turning those challenges around while keeping a positive outlook. Stay focused on the bigger picture, and let each challenge become a chance to grow and shine.

7?? Be a Proud Brand Ambassador

Lead by example and inspire others with your professionalism.

8?? Set and Track Your Goals

Whether it’s a small step or a big leap, aim for continuous improvement. Use tools and resources (like Marriott’s MGS and DLZ) to support your growth.

9?? Focus on Professionalism

Your attitude and approach define your reputation, so make it one that earns respect and admiration. Hospitality is a close-knit industry where you’ll cross paths with the same people throughout your career. Always be mindful of the impression you leave—it can open doors to future opportunities and partnerships. Build a reputation you’re proud of!

?? Remember Why You Started in hospitality

Hold on to that spark of passion that drew you to hospitality—it’s what keeps you motivated, even on the toughest days. That passion is the heart of what makes this career so rewarding and fulfilling. When you find a job you truly love, it won’t feel like work at all—it’ll feel like purpose. ??

?? Seek Out Mentors

Learn from someone who inspires you—whether it’s a colleague, an online role model, or even a celebrity!

?? You Reflect Your Circle

You are shaped by the five people you spend the most time with. (For me, that means a lot of teenage-boy energy at home! LOL) Choose wisely, and remember: the more you give, the more you’ll get in return.

?? Find Balance

Hospitality is a fast-paced world, but prioritizing a work-life balance is essential for long-term success and happiness.

This industry offers so much to those willing to embrace it—growth, connections, and the chance to create unforgettable experiences for others. So dive in, stay passionate, and see where this amazing career can take you.

My favourite saying that I learned from my mum - "Find a job you love and you will never work a day in your life" ??

?? I Think “Diet” is About More Than Just What’s on Your Plate ??

It’s about everything you choose to let into your life—from the TV you watch and the books you read to the people you surround yourself with. Be mindful of what you consume emotionally, spiritually, and physically.

Life is short—and sometimes hard! Surround yourself with people who inspire you, support you, and push you to be the best version of yourself.

What’s the best advice you received when starting out? I’d love to hear your thoughts! ??
