Starting year 19 as a podcaster/radio host of #FederalNewsNetwork

In 2006 I started a radio show at WBIS in Annapolis, The Amtower Marketing Report. It was a pay-to-play station but I wanted to learn how to be a radio host, so I bought in and made the weekly trek to Annapolis. I was not totally focused on GovCon for this show, but did have Robert Lohfeld on as he lived nearby.

Late in 2006 I got a call from #FederalNewsRadio asking me if I wanted to host my show in DC.

Manna from heaven. Turns out my friend Mark Meudt , then VP at GDIT, had lunch with Joel Oxley , VP & GM of #WTOP and #WFED and the discussion turned to WFED, which was all news for federal employees, nothing for the Federal contracting world. Mark suggested to Joel that it would be great to have a show for contractors and that I would be the ideal host. I am fairly certain Joel did not know who I was…

Needless to say, I took the gig. When I met with Lisa Wolfe, PMP , then program director at WFED, I asked what the show name should be. A popular segment of my enewsletter where I dissected GovCon was Off Center, so Lisa said without hesitation, “Amtower Off Center.”

And so it started, the second week of February in 2007.

Since the beginning you could listen online whenever you wanted, so technically it was a radio show and podcast, and I think it was the first podcast for the contracting side of our market.

Over the years I have interviewed hundreds in our market and beyond, business best-sellers, GovCon thought leaders and influencers, CEOs and CMOs and front line marketing, sales and BD professionals.

I am happy to report that I am still there, starting year 19 at GovCon news central, #FederalNewsNetwork.
