Starting Out as an SDR

I am currently part of a team that leads a large number of SDRs. Having launched an SDR team at a couple of start-ups and currently working directly with more than a handful of highly recognized mature, bigger public, and early-stage I can say that the best place to start is where you want to learn the most.

At an early stage, you will learn how to book meetings and possibly wear some other hats. At a more mature company, you will need to produce and produce fast, the investment in that company (personal or external) will weigh on getting it done. Bigger public companies have procedures to follow and it is super hard to be seen in a larger team.

Starting at an outsourced SDR company will give you the ability to see multiple styles of companies, the ability to use an investment in tech stack, and the ability to advance. Mostly the opportunity to advance quickly.

When I started doing BDR work as a college senior in 1998 for a dental CRM out of the entrepreneur's home office I smiled and dialed on my cell phone and booked meetings. If there was an outsourced SDR company like the ones available today to go work at when I graduated, it would have been the opportunity of a lifetime.
