Starting a new job? You need these tips!

Over the past few weeks hundreds of thousands of adults have graduated and are preparing to enter the "real world".

Whether you're among the sea of graduates this summer eager to start your career or you're simply looking for ways to get your life organized, we've compiled some to help get you on the right track:

Understand Email Etiquette:?

  • Set up an email signature - this is how to do it on Google?
  • Respond within 24 hours. This could change pending the type of job you have but there is nothing worse than waiting on someone else to do something, especially if it is simple!
  • Instead of a long email with a lot of information, try breaking down your email into bullet points and using formatting like bold, italics, and colors to help the reader digest it easier. Bonus points – bold any takeaways that need attention :)?

Practice Great Meeting Etiquette

  • Keep your cal up to date – have a personal thing to do? No worries, life happens. Put a hold or block on your calendar so you aren’t the one responsible for meetings moving around.
  • Accept or decline an invite. If you don’t accept, someone may not show up and you’re there waiting and staring at yourself on Zoom… not always fun.
  • Have an agenda! It may seem simple, but having an agenda keeps everyone on track and allows everyone to understand whether or not they should be there.?

Random Organizational Hacks

  • Be consistent with your to-do list. Put it in a task tool like Asana, Google Sheets or just good ole’ paper but have it live in one place.
  • Create meetings for yourself to get sh*t done! Focused time is always helpful, especially when needing to really zone in.
  • Set boundaries on your calendar.?
  • Have a kid at home? Block off time after 5 and make it so that people need to ask for a meeting or just be unavailable. (Hint: this is easier if you get your stuff done!)
  • Traveling for work? Put a time zone on your calendar when you’re not working in your normal schedule.
  • Still available but on the run? Add in ways that people can schedule with you (available just for a phone call, available with video, only available on slack, etc). This will help you be more productive and a pretty great and communicative co-worker :)
