Starting 2025 strong: fire safety for the year ahead
CheckFire Ltd
We have set ourselves to offer an unprecedented level of support to the Fire Trade
A new year, and a fresh look at fire safety solutions. As we celebrate 50 years of CheckFire in 2025, we remain committed to delivering cutting-edge innovations and expert guidance for the UK fire trade. For our first edition of QuickFire of 2025, we’re taking a look at the latest sustainable and high-performance fire safety equipment – including The Green Range, CommanderEDGE Lithium-ion Battery Fire Extinguishers, and Bridgehill fire blankets.?
A future free from PFAS
The proposed EU-wide restriction on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) by December 2030, marks a significant shift in industry standards. With growing environmental concerns, and increasing scrutiny on the impact of PFAS, businesses across Europe are being urged to act.?
While there’s currently no immediate legal requirement to stop using PFAS-containing fire extinguishers, making the transition to fluorine-free fire safety products now ensures proactive compliance with future legislation.?Which is why in October 2024, we communicated that we were on a journey towards eliminating PFAS from our fire extinguisher range.
The Green Range has now evolved into an entirely?PFAS-free fire extinguisher range from Commander and CommanderEDGE, combining high performance and eco-friendly fire safety solutions. Including:?
The Green Crosshair symbol is present across all fire extinguishers in The Green Range, proudly showcasing our dedication to sustainable fire safety, as well as serving as an easy identifier for PFAS-free fire extinguishers.
Lithium-ion battery safety: one of the most pressing fire concerns of 2025
With the rapid increase in rechargeable electronic devices, fire safety has become an increasingly critical concern with regards to those that are powered by lithium-ion batteries.
In 2023, UK fire services reported a staggering 46% increase in fires linked to lithium-ion batteries compared to the previous year. Recognising the severity of this issue, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 now acknowledges the consideration of lithium-ion batteries in all fire risk assessments in the UK.

Having the right fire extinguisher on hand is essential for protecting people and property. Our CommanderEDGE LFX lithium-ion fire extinguisher range is an innovative fire safety tool for tackling lithium-ion battery fires in devices up to 900Wh. Combining extensive certifications, including an NTA 8133 approval in the 6ltr and 9ltr, as well as high-performance A Class fire ratings, LFX fire extinguishers offer a specialised solution for these challenging fires, as well as surrounding collateral Class A fires caused by the exploding batteries.?
LFX uses an endothermic, water-based extinguishing agent with a foam-like texture. This foam sticks to the surface of the battery longer than a regular liquid, enhancing its ability to draw heat out of the cells and halt thermal runaway in its early stages.?
Introducing the Bridgehill fire blanket range
We’re proud to partner with Bridgehill and introduce their extensive fire blanket offering into the LFX range of lithium-ion battery fire safety solutions. Specifically designed to contain and extinguish fires in both electric and fossil fuel vehicles – the range supports with one of the most pressing fire safety challenges of 2025 across a variety of applications.?
When lithium-ion batteries are damaged or overheated, they can enter thermal runaway – a chain reaction that generates intense heat and flames, spreading to nearby cells and releasing toxic gases. This can be difficult to tackle with traditional methods, but Bridgehill fire blankets can rapidly be deployed by just two people in seconds to:
Suitable for a wide range of locations – including car showrooms, garages, car parks, warehouses, service stations, tunnels, and ferries – Bridgehill fire blankets are available in various sizes to suit different needs, from standard vehicles, to larger SUVs and industrial forklifts. Trusted by global brands such as Tesla, Formula 1, Volkswagen, and BMW, these fire blankets have already set a new benchmark in fire safety.
