Rachael Toon

Founder, evolX - EU, US & Canada, Aerospace & New Space Tech

Rachael launched evolX in September 2023 after 4 years of experience in Engineering and Tech recruitment, most recently with Strativ.?

?evolX specialises in evolutionary technologies, with a focus on UAV engineering... that’s “unmanned aerial vehicles” for the rest of us!

Rachael had an initial struggle for traction that’s common to many founders, and found she was spending her efforts too thinly across too many types of roles.

She found it tough to stay motivated and regularly thought about quitting - but her partner and support network encouraged her to keep going... so she was determined.

?The steps Rachael took included:

  • Evaluating her time management
  • Tripling down on what was proven to be driving results (hint: more varied BD and a lot of it!)
  • Picking up the phone and reducing expectations on text/email channels
  • Adopting an ‘inch wide, mile deep’ approach - she now almost exclusively works UAV engineering roles in the US.

After winning a role that was retained by another agency and unfilled after 3 months, Rach placed it (after negotiating a significant salary increase and hybrid working) and they started within the month!

She’s since closed out her career-high placement fee of $42k and won additional retained work.?
