Starter Pack: Digital Marketing For Startups & Small Businesses

The key objective for every business is to acquire clients and keep them loyal. Start with these 4 must have digital basics and you can tick the business visibility box as done.

For every business, be it a product, Information or a service, creating an identity online is just as important as having a physical address or a registered business name. In the age of technology where the internet is the new address book, people interested in an Ad placement of your product rush online to check the legitimacy of your business.

Simply put, setting up these basics is a priority in your business success.

1. Professional Business Email Address

Have you received an important business proposal from a company with a free email address? (gmail, ymail, msn etc). Your first step is usually scepticism on the validity of the business especially if you have never heard of them before. This usually already lowers your receptive meter by almost half and most often, your interest ends there.

Don't let this be you. Getting a professional email is simple and there are several options of getting one.

b). Google for Business offers a package to businesses to get company email addresses plus G Suite packages that include Microsoft Office packages, Contact Storage, Work Files Storage etc

2. Google Business Registration

This is a vital necessity for any business as it's the first thing people see when they search for your business. A key note is that google verification may take up to 2 weeks through Email, phone or Post Mail.

Once this is done, it will be linked to your Google+ Business Account which will need to be updated frequently with posts, videos, photos etc.

3. Social Media Accounts Set Up

Most businesses are now sold on the importance of having social media accounts for their businesses but are not aware that this could make or break them if they do not follow the rules. What you need to take note is that just like any other advertising platform be it Newspapers, Billboards, TV etc, perception is key in selling.

You need to ensure that your business follows basic etiquette. This means, don't pile up your profile picture and cover photo with information. Minimal in this case is more.

Next step is writing a clear business profile that gives people a view of what your business is all about. This is also where you can customise your business url name that people can search you with on social.

4. Professional Content Presentation

Remember that each social media platform has its use and audience. The first step is always understanding what the platform is about, who visits the platform and how users on that platform interact with content. This is one step that a professional digital strategist will help.

Key rules to follow: Design, Content Information, Hashtags and Frequency. The last one is crucial in growing interest and earning trust with the users.

Also, you need to know that since social platforms algorithms are set up with users first in mind, users who see and don't interact with your posts will not be served with them any more. This means that you are losing critical potential business through carelessness. Worse still, the day you choose to pay for advertising on the platforms, your charge would be higher per acquisition of a client.
