Started From The Classroom, Now We're Here!
Many students start tertiary education with so much hope. My story was not different, and neither was yours, I am sure. You believed and anticipated that by the time you had finished understanding all the various concepts and principles pertaining to your choice of study, companies would be at your doorstep knocking and competing each other for a chance at your talent and services.?
Many motivational speakers encourage students to create links and networks in school. They say we should not idle our time away but rather channel our energy and time into learning while in school. They asserted that once you are done with school, it will take more than just your certificate to land the job of your dream. I agreed wholeheartedly, having gone through my undergraduate days keeping mostly to myself. I was determined not to repeat this cycle.?
As if heaven heard my prayers, my golden opportunity came. During our many practical sessions at school, one of the lecturers mentioned that we needed to find jobs that will help us gather the required experience and the exposure to become world class public relations professionals. He mentioned Strategic Communication Africa Limited (Stratcomm Africa) as one of the leading Communication Firms in Ghana and described how effective they were in executing results-oriented communication strategies. Narrating his encounter with the organization, he encouraged us to seek job opportunities along those lines.?
His testament of Stratcomm Africa awakened my interest. I began to read up on the firm and realized the endless opportunities that was available. I applied right after my final exams, went for an interview and was offered a position as an intern for a few months. It was a strange time for me. I went from juggling lecture schedules, thesis and projects, to actually applying all the communications concepts I had learned over the course. It was exhilarating to see the theories I had learnt coming into full force. I had the opportunity to develop communication plans and campaigns, taking a shot at creative writing and developing concepts that helped many organizations.
My work was recognized and I was offered a position as Principal Communications Officer. Indeed, hard work betrays none!

Today I celebrate my achievement not just as a valued staff of Stratcomm Africa but as the freshest Graduate in town, gradually making waves in the communication industry.
It has been quite a journey, and I have enjoyed every bit of it. The transition from academia to the corporate world was bumpy, but I look forward to more wins ahead. I think we can all agree that the future is exciting.
Cheers, to dreams coming true!
