Strawberries are quite the versatile treat to feast on - not only are they nutritious, but also sweet and delicious. Despite it requiring lower amounts of fertilizer compared to other horticulture crops, various parameters such as temperature, photo period, and light intensity must be carefully monitored throughout a strawberry's life cycle in order to ensure that one's crop is of the highest quality with the greatest yield. In the case of our client, they had multiple polytunnels – meaning that manually irrigating and monitoring each and every tunnel was a challenge. Moreover, as strawberries are highly sensitive to fluctuations in temperature, pH levels, EC levels, and moisture levels, monitoring each detail across multiple polytunnels via human skill is overwhelming and inefficient.?
Solution
The client required a system that would automate their irrigation systems across all their polytunnels – allowing it to be controlled remotely in real-time whilst being able to track the system’s statistics such as time-stamps of water irrigation cycles, how much water was utilized, and more. Furthermore, they wished to monitor the aforementioned parameters with precision to ensure a greater yield and higher quality with minimal wastage of resources.
SenzAgro’s Smart Farming System can cater all mentioned conditions via its mobile/web application – which offers remote, real-time access to all data related to the user’s crops whilst giving the user freedom to manage their irrigation systems via set conditions or through the application. Its various sensors for temperature, EC, humidity, and soil moisture can be utilized to monitor all parameters required across the application, offer advice on irrigation, and manage the crops more efficiently – ensuring sufficient?amounts of each parameter is provided to the strawberries. Crop specific advice could help the farmers monitor and manage their crops with?more confidence as the data provided guarantees the best yield, and SMS notifications can be? used to inform, monitor, and manage farm operations and personnel via the farm application. Action Taken
After deploying SenzAgro’s Digiplant within the polytunnels, its microclimate parameters (such as temperature, humidity, soil moisture and EC) were monitored in real-time to ensure that the strawberry crops receive the perfect amounts of heat, pH, water, fertility, and other parameters. Additionally, the? data from the sensors were used in understanding how various applications of the mentioned parameters could improve yield quantity and quality efficiently. The client accessed all the data in a generated report from the application, hence saving time in recording and displaying data effectively for analysis.
The client’s irrigation systems were automated and monitored?through the application provided in real-time regardless of the user’s location. All data related to irrigation; such as its time-stamps, history, frequency, and amounts, are recorded and displayed to the users of the application.?In cases of the fungal attacks along with other pests and diseases; apart from using fungicides,? photos are sent via the Farm application to their own agronomists – who in turn identify and? study the issue in-depth and offer advice in controlling it. Results
The client was highly appeased with SenzAgro’s system. Automated irrigation cycles allowed farm? personal to save time and focus on other important tasks, sensors provided real-time data which? were used to monitor the crop’s conditions (with aid from the system’s crop specific intelligence) and manage all physical parameters, the data collected was used to predict and forecast water requirements or the crop’s yield and harvest, pests and diseases were dealt with quickly and efficiently, and overall?operations of all the poly-tunnels were monitored in real-time from anywhere via the mobile application.?
