Start Your Day with the King of Kings!
As we examine the life of David in the Bible, we realize that as he writes Psalm 143, he is a man in turmoil. The enemy has pursued his soul [Psalm 143:3]. His spirit is blacking out. His heart is appalled [Psalm 143:4]. From what we read we can picture him in a battle where the enemy is doing his utmost to break him down. Many of us may be able to identify with what David is going through here, even though the warfare against us is largely unseen. Our alarm clock goes off, and the enemy, the devil never hits his snooze button. We wake up in a war zone within ourselves. As Christians, we need to know that we can stand and confront the enemy of our lives and put him right back in his place. The decisive battle has been won. When Jesus died for the world and we accepted Him as Lord and Savior, it is as if we were with Him on the cross. When He conquered death on the cross, we also conquered death with Him, and every force set against us was exposed to open shame. The hope of our eternal souls does not dependent on how quickly we spring out of bed, but in how confident we are willing to live in Him [Jesus].
Our Scripture Text for this Morning is: Psalm 143:8 “Let me hear in the morning of your steadfast love, for in You I trust. Make me know the way I should go, for to you I lift my soul.”
There are two things that make up everyone’s everyday – receptivity and productivity. We are creatures who constantly take in and put out. The question is, ‘What will it be?’ But we will get up, and whenever we do, the scheming principalities are soaring, causing havoc around us. Circumstances breathe down our necks. Stress starts pounding on our doors. We move into action for the day to face the world of receptivity and productivity. We can help ourselves by getting acquainted with the prayer of David. He gets to the heart of the matter. Let us start our days by putting the right foot first. Let us soak in God’s truth and then submit all our doings to His guidance. The best way to start each day is with the prayer: “Let me hear from you, O Lord, and allow me to lean on You as I walk through this day.’
Our first stance is to have open hearts that will listen and hear from God. When we are confident in His steadfast love towards us and we steady our thoughts in Him as our anchor – God allows His grace to flow through our lives, breaking the yoke that the enemy has tried to devise against us. His touch in our lives allow us to be a fountains of blessing to all that we engage through the day. And as we grow in His confidence and strength, we am able to face every onslaught that the enemy brings up against us. Without even knowing it, we are able to conquer the situations that face us and tries us for the day. A right word to the right person, a listening ear to someone who needs understanding and an embracing arm to someone who needs comfort, breaks the attack of the enemy and allows the grace of God to flow right out of us into our environment. We become fountains or springs of living waters to all who will drink from us.
As we recognize favor from those around us, we realize that it is only the Lord. The more we give Him the glory for our victories in life, the more we conquer and the stronger we become in Him. At this point, we realize that it is only by leaning on Him that we am able to face every obstacle and overcome them. Our hearts, minds and voices resound with the details of our victory: ‘The Lord helped me to overcome the enemy of my soul.’ This is the secret of Christian success – a real relationship with the living God! Too often as Christians, we know what it is we need to do, but we never transform those thoughts into becoming the actions of our lives. James in the Bible reminds us that we should not be hearers only of the Word, but doers also. When we start doing the Word of God in our lives, we remove deception from our ways and we can look unto Jesus who is the author and finisher of our faith and lives. There is no guilt, shame, sin or iniquity between us, just the power of the cleansing blood of the Lamb. Start your day right and you will grow into the riches of His grace.
