Start with "WHY"!

Start with "WHY"!

Dear Chieke,

I am glad that you are listening to my advice. Today, I want to show you an important question you need to ask as often as possible. That question is "WHY". Oh yes, you heard correctly. I know you might be asking why "WHY" instead of “what”, “where”, “when”, or “how”. While these other question types can be dependent on /hindered by some external factors, your "WHY" becomes your internal driving force. Even when the motivation is not there, your "WHY" instills some discipline and alignment.

"All organizations start with WHY, but only the great ones keep their WHY clear year after year.” - Simon Sinek.

Why you should ask "WHY"

  • It strengthens your sense of purpose to a higher calling.
  • It is part of your DNA.
  • When faced with a difficult decision, your "WHY" will help to gain clarity in blurred areas.
  • You gain more insights about something/situation.
  • It is important for analytical thinking and problem-solving.
  • It gives you a sense of responsibility and accountability.
  • It helps to build stronger and better relationships with people.
  • "Why" makes you to be more intentional than ever.

As you apply for jobs or make a request to someone, You will often get people asking you "WHY". Be ready to give an intelligent answer from your "WHY". - Chidera Bassey

Here are some questions you can begin to ask yourself and ensure to journal them:

  • Why is this happening?
  • Why me?
  • Why now?
  • Why should I do this?
  • Why do I need this?
  • Why not?

Strengthen your "WHY" as often as possible.
