When done regularly, the simple act of journaling has unmeasurable returns. Numerous studies show that journaling is shown to have significant benefits, improving both mental and physical health, which contribute to overall improved quality of life.?
But you already have a million other things to do during your day, right? I want to encourage you to make time for journaling.? It really is beneficial.?
Personally, I like to keep 2 journals. As a CEO of The Oldfather Group of Compass RE in Delaware, I keep a small journal for agent meetings and client consultations, so that I can keep a running record of my client's needs and expectations. I also have another larger journal for personal thoughts and affirmations.?I am rarely without one or both of these.
If the act of journaling seems daunting,? here are 3 ways to get started quickly and easily:
- Make it Happen: The biggest thing that trips people up about journaling is not knowing what to write about. One way to get the ball rolling is to use the “brain dump” approach, which involves no rules or agenda - just stream-of-consciousness without attention to grammar, punctuation, or structure.? Just get whatever is in your head out on paper, even if it’s messy.? Another great approach is to focus on gratitude.? Simply make a list or write a few sentences of things you feel grateful for; big or small.?
- Make it Personal: My large journal (for personal thoughts and affirmations) is line-free and spacious, which is great for my (sometimes) sloppy handwriting and flow charts/graphic organizers. My client journal is small, which is great when I’m out and on the move with clients.? My favorite journals come from Aspinal of London and Jenni Bick Custom Journals.? Investing in quality leather covers, embossing, and personalization can all be factors that make your journal unique and worthy of daily writing. (They make great gifts too.) There are apps and digital journals available as well, so use whatever works for your lifestyle.?
- Make it a Habit: Start small and carve out 10 minutes every day to journal, but keep it consistent.? Mornings are a great time while your mind is fresh and (relatively) quiet, but evenings before bed are great for reflection as well.? Choose what works best for you, but keep it going!
May #2022 be a year of clarity, gratitude, and success, one journal entry at a time!
If you journal, what helps you in the writing process? How has it benefited you? Feel free to leave a comment so others can learn from your experience.
