Start Small
You may recall I mentioned in a previous article that I was scaling back my television watching. I have stuck with it. And although I have been busy with plenty of distractions, my television watching has continued to be limited, especially local and national news. We watch shows on Netflix in the evening, and I watch old episodes of The Rifleman on AMC Saturday mornings. I have also cut back on the Twitter time. I look at Twitter much less often and found that I am not missing as much as I thought I was. I do not need to be kept up to the minute on everything going on in the world.
I started wearing a watch a couple of years ago so I could leave my phone in the car while I went on an appointment, out to eat or another event. Since I always had my phone, it became my time keeper too. I still carry my phone with me a lot, but at least I have the option now.
I told Paula this weekend that I would like to start carrying a book to read. Instead of mindlessly looking at social media on my phone when I have those moments of downtime or waiting, I want to read a book. I have never played a game on my phone, so that is not an issue. I removed Facebook from my phone several months ago and do not miss it. I don't have my own Facebook page, but I do look at Paula's Facebook on occasion.
Start small. Be conscience of always looking down. Look up and try to find a connection eye-to-eye. Observe. Take in your surroundings. Enjoy what you see and hear. Or try this - just sit there and be still with your own thoughts. Just think.
Start small & look up. Let me know how it goes.
