Start with the big vision. Thank me later!
Since last year, I have been writing and speaking about big audacious goals and big vision in my personal and business endeavors. I have been talking to business owners and leaders about dreaming big and pushing the needle towards greatness. In 2023, nothing has changed on that front. I am sitting on a Sunday night in College Station, TX at 10pm while by husband/business is DJ for private VIP event for a charity golf tournament. I am the designated driver, drinking some great Topo Chico mineral water and writing this article. We should wrap up around midnight and head back to Houston for a full day at work on Monday. Why is this important?
"We are intentional about our professional business goals and then we seek solutions. This approach is relevant for organizations of any size."
In my new consulting life, we provide a variety of services to our clients. We work with some talented business leaders. These folks are focused on several areas of business growth from process improvement, establishing efficient processes, staffing up, getting new systems in place to hiring the right people for the right job. This week was important to have focused conversations on "what's next?" on "the right move" on honestly on "stepping back".

"We talked specifically about pushing back on the tendency we all have to lead with the answer. "
By taking a step back, you can introduce vision into the process. As a business leader, you can take those few extra hours to review the corporate strategy, speak with your executives, the board, and staff to really understand how you want to move forward. Our discussions were clear about technology being a key component to the solution, but not the only solution. Technology should be an enabler to business objectives. By looking holistically, organizations can consider people, processes and technology in developing a blueprint for the future. We can leverage workshops at the beginning of engagements to ensure we have a clear plan in place to meet company goals.
Given the opportunity to shape the direction of your organization, remember to not rush to the answer. Many times, we have limited time and resources and need a solution in place yesterday. However, too many times we see money and time spent on the wrong solution, with a shortened timeline and budget to course correct. Take the time. You can thank me later.
