Start with a BANG!!

Start with a BANG!!

Have you ever faced a situation, where you were about to start a speech or presentation but become unsure how to begin it in an impressive manner. What if the audience doesn't listen, what if the presentation doesn't connect. Well, you are not the only one.

Often speakers get confused how to make a powerful impact in the first few sentences itself.

The problem is tricky, but the solution is not, let's explore an approach with few simple steps which you can incorporate easily in your next speech or presentation.

If you are delivering a prepared speech or a presentation, you can begin with the following elements:

1) A personal anecdote or an incident which relates to the topic or builds up to it. A personal experience is always an earnest attempt and the audience generally appreciates as it has a personal touch to it.

2) Knowing your audience is very important. If you know what kind of audience you are going to deliver, you can always customize your examples so that they can relate to them and it will definitely hook them from the very beginning

3) You can always start with a question or two, making the audience ponder over the topic you are going to deliver. It always capture the attention in the first few minutes as the audience are indirectly asked to be involved through the questions in a very subtle way.

4) Beginning with a story or a legend also captures the audience more often than not. You can ultimately lead the story to the main theme to create the maximum impact.

5) Start with a humor if you can. The audience gets hooked immediately once they start smiling and laughing. It brings them to an ease and a comfort zone thus more receptive to whatever you say.

You can start practicing with the above suggestions in your next speech or hop down to a nearby Toastmasters club and start delivering speeches to master it.

Hope the above pointers help you whenever you start your next speech or presentation. Keep practicing and the BANG will not be far away!
