Start Baking Your Business Cake Today ??

Hello Bakers, I mean Business Leaders ??,

Today's 'baking' analogy came to me in a session with a client who had issues taking ‘the next step’ for the business, believing she wasn’t ready yet. I thought this message would make it easier for her to grasp how ready she actually was, and it applies not only to baking but also to building and growing your business. It's all about taking action and proceeding with what you have, even if it's not everything you need. Let's dive in!

Imagine you have a strong craving for a delicious orange cake (if you do actually fancy orange cake). You check your kitchen, and guess what? You don't have any oranges. Now, here's where the entrepreneurial mindset comes into play. Instead of postponing your ‘sweet tooth’ craving until you make a supermarket run for oranges, you decide to go ahead anyway. Chances are you have flour, milk, and eggs in your fridge and pantry (similar to a vision, some expertise, and investable time as business-building ingredients). So, you go ahead and bake a pound cake with the basic ingredients you have on hand.

This is the essence of entrepreneurship – taking action with the resources you currently possess. Just like baking that plain cake, you can begin building your business with the foundational elements you currently possess. You have resource pools at your fingertips right now: time, energy, knowledge, and money (albeit any - or all - of them being limited).

Here's why this approach is so powerful:?

1. Start the Process: By taking the first/next step, you initiate the process of creating something meaningful. Your business journey begins/resumes with that initial plain cake.

2. Learn and Adapt: As you progress, you'll gain valuable insights and experience. It's like adding ingredients to your cake one by one. You learn what works and what doesn't, making improvements along the way.

3. Flexibility: Entrepreneurship demands adaptability. Just as you can switch from plain cake to orange cake when you get oranges, you can pivot and evolve your business as you acquire more resources and experience.

4. Momentum: Starting with what you have creates momentum. It's easier to attract partners, customers, and investors when they see you've taken that next step towards growing your business.

5. Build Confidence: Each successful milestone, no matter how small, builds your confidence. It's like achieving the perfect cake texture – it takes practice, and you get better with each attempt.

So, I encourage you to apply this philosophy to your business aspirations. Don't wait until you have every resource in place. Start now with the basics. Create your "plain cake" and then add the "oranges," additional flavors, and more tiers as you go along.

With consistent, relentless work, you can turn your business dreams into reality. And, you can turn your pound cake into a multi-tiered work of art.

Wishing you a sweet and successful entrepreneurial journey!

This analogy is so on point - rather than catastrophize the lack of having *all* the resources, recognize the opportunity that lies in the resources we do have (and who knows, someone may show up on our doorstep with a bag of oranges and we can have *two* cakes! ??)
