Stars and Stipes
I thought it was only fitting with today being July 4th, that I share a little from my recent visit to our nations capital and what Independence Day means to me.
If you’ve never visited Washington DC I strongly encourage you make time to visit. There is an aura about this place. I’m not quite sure how to describe it, but I would say it's a little bit political, a little bit powerful and a whole lot of freedom. There is something about this place that gives you a great feeling of pride. I have been here several times before but this time was a little different for me. I think it’s fair to say that there is a lot of unrest in the world today, so maybe being in this place, at this time, made me feel a little differently.
On this my most recent visit, I was joined by some of the most knowledgeable men and woman in my field. Three times each year we get together and talk through the challenges that we all face. These meetings provide an opportunity to solve problems, recommend new ways of doing things, create new functionality or processes all with the goal of ensuring that our industry thrives for years to come. I would like to thank all of my peers for two days well spent, I always come away learning more from each of you. It's fair to say that we have no shortage of work to do and I look forward to continuing these efforts with you as we move forward.
Circling back to where I started off, I strongly encourage everyone to take a couple of days and visit our nations capital. Sure there is no shortage of museums, monuments and historical buildings to see. Those are just some of the things you should try and take in while you’re there. However, if you take anything away from this let it be that you should take the time to recognize where you are and what important decisions have and continue to be made there. It's a truly inspiring place.
Our hero's fought so that we could have the freedoms that we all enjoy today. So when you see a veteran make sure to stop and shake their hand, if your in a restaurant or coffee shop, pick up their tab, or just say THANK YOU. We will never truly know their sacrifice, but they should all know our appreciation.
