THE STARS OF THE SHOW
Last Thursday saw the long-awaited return of the London Office Agents Charity Boxing Night.?
The event was the 5th in a series of shows with the score at two apiece before the event. That score now stands at 3-2 to the City team.?
I think boxing is different from other sports because you don’t ’play’ boxing. You fight. You take a loss in boxing far more personally. I know this because I’ve been there. It can be devastating when the ref doesn’t raise your arm at the end, or worse, you have to pick yourself up off the floor.?
You have no team to hide behind during a fight, and a boxer can’t be substituted. You have to carry on rolling with the punches even if you are too tired to hold your guard up.?
However, this isn’t the most challenging part. The harshest aspect of the sport is the chance of being knocked out.
It’s a horrific thought and every boxer that fought last Thursday had to contemplate it routinely until fight night.?
Anyone that volunteers to risk so much in front of family, friends, colleagues and in this case, their industry, deserves the admiration the 1000 or so guests gave them.?
There was excitement in all 10 contests. But there were two that stood out.
Both Ciaran and I agreed that the two boxers who made the most progress throughout their training camp were Viviana Thurstan and Alice Eamey . To say they pulled it out of the bag on the night is a massive understatement. Their fight was a seriously close contender for being the fight of the night.?
This leaves me to congratulate Jonathan Cheung and Tom Latham MRICS . The winners of the Fight Of The Night trophies. Their match was one of the closest and technically fought white collar fights I’ve witnessed.?
It was evident from an early stage in camp that the two would meet on fight night. Even their sparring sessions received rounds of applause from both training camps.?
Their fight on the night didn’t disappoint.?
Every boxer exceeded our expectations by a country mile and Ciaran and I both agree wholeheartedly that it was a pleasure and honour to have trained and coached all of them on their boxing journeys.?

9 个月Jamie, the past 5 (ish) months have been such an incredible journey. I think we can all say that we've found out so much about ourselves and to put in the hard work for such a length of time was most rewarding on Thursday night. Congratulations to every single one of us that fought on the card, and an even bigger thank you to both yourself, Ciaran and the rest of the team for the dedication you all put in to make the event such a success. Will be a night I'll never forget!

9 个月Jamie, the standard of boxing this year was the best we’ve ever seen and that’s testament to the training from you and Ciaran. Exceptional performances from all the fighters! James ‘and the giant reach’ could still be tempted out of retirement for the next one!
