STARS Program Grant Helps Students and Teachers Shine

The The School District of Palm Beach County Department of Teaching and Learning received a $34,000 grant for the Supporting Teachers to Accelerate Readers' Success (STARS) Program, thanks to the generosity of, in collaboration with the Jimmy Moran and TD CHARITABLE FOUNDATION . The funds will go toward providing classroom resources and professional development/teacher training.?

The STARS Program supports the School District’s specific Strategic Theme of Academic Excellence and Growth. Furthermore, one of the District’s long-term goals is to increase the number of students reading on grade level by third grade.

A method of achieving this is dramatically improving kindergarten through second grade student instruction. Providing teachers with professional development and materials will increase their skills, positively impact student outcomes, and help meet this important goal.

The STARS contribution will help teachers in grades K-2 improve literacy instruction through a professional development series. It will also provide resources and materials for teachers to use with students to support the strategies they learned in training.
