It’s the beginning of the new year and everyone is already fantasizing about their grand plans for 2025.
I’m not usually one for big resolutions… it’s not my style!
But I do think there’s something in the air when a new year rolls around. It just feels like a new beginning.?
One thing I love doing every January is reading my horoscope. It gives me some ideas and inspiration to think about the year ahead.
Whether you look to the stars or elsewhere for ideas, January is a great time to start planning your future.
Instead of creating grand resolutions, what if you asked yourself one very important question?
How are you going to make this year different from all the other years?
As you think about your answer, here are a few ideas to start your year off right:
1) Positive goals stick more than negative ones.?
When we start the new year, it’s important to focus on affirmations rather than rejections. Instead of saying, “This year, I won’t get distracted with social media,” you might say, “This year, I’m going to try the Pomodoro method to get more done.”?

Action-oriented goals (do’s rather than don’ts) give you more agency. After all, the only way to break out of past patterns and start accomplishing our goals is to take responsibility for your own role.
For example, your diet didn’t fail because a donut place opened across the street from your apartment. (Yum!) It failed because you chose to go there! (Multiple times…)
This also means you can take responsibility for everything that went well. It’s not just luck — you’re making it happen!
2) Bad habits are not just the actions we take.
Sometimes we can develop bad ‘thinking’ habits. So you might think failure is inevitable, which subconsciously causes you to act in a self-sabotaging manner.
This ultimately allows you to prove that you were right about being a failure in the first place and continues the negative cycle. It becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Let’s leave that in 2024.?
3) You are always changing.
Whether or not you recognize it each day, you are always changing. Your perspective, ideas, and creativity grow and shift throughout the year.
That can feel overwhelming — or it can be exciting! You might consider how you’ve changed in 2024 and recognize all the growth that has taken place. This is a wonderful way to begin 2025 with curiosity about how you will evolve and set intentions to work with.?
I invite you to join me in beginning the year with a positive mindset and an intention to be the most creative and productive we can be!
