STARMER CALLS FOR LONG-TERM PLANNING, 5th NOV NEW DATE FOR FED SUMMIT, FED NATIONAL SURVEY ENDS SOON, LAUNCH OF CLIMATE EDUCATION TOOLKIT CLOSE
The Foundation for Education Development
Dedicated to the belief that long-term strategic education planning is vital to the success of countries and citizens.
A long-term plan for education is too important to become a political football and exist in just a manifesto. It needs to be at the heart of how the education systems functions. On Friday last week?Sir Keir Starmer?called for?long term planning and the need for collaboration to achieve such:
'The immediate challenge is what are you going to do today to fix the problem. To which politicians say, here is the sticking plaster. But we haven’t got time for the long-term because it will take too long. The next year, its the same problem, and you say what are you going to do, put a sticking plaster on it, and?don’t do the long- term. We go round and round in circles. These things will take time.'??'We have got turn the page...Broader than just the Labour Party it has to be something to take the country forward. A collaborative approach.'
As our four year consultation has demonstrated, the need for collaboration beyond the political cycle is not only desired, but needed to solve so many?issues within our education system.
Our message to a new government is simple - strategy not sticking plasters. Without long-term policies?built on listening and consensus, no government can create the great education for every learner that all parties promise.
As the election looms, take this final opportunity to complete our National Education Survey . Your voice matters and will be reflected in our 4th National Education Consultation Report to be launched in the House of Lords on July 9th.
The 5 questions will take no more that 2 minutes and asks the simple questions - What should the next Secretary of State for Education prioritise?
Amongst the noise of a general election it would be quite easy to forgot that nearly 1 in 3 female students are ‘very worried’ about climate change and a?third of students want to learn more about climate change, as recently reported in the Times Educational Supplement. The findings come amid reports of growing 'climate anxiety' among students.
Alongside over 50 partners, the FED has created a free one-stop shop that provides you with all you need to start your school on its journey to produce a Climate and Sustainability Action Plan in line with recommendations in the DfE’s Strategy. As?Professor Dame Alison Peacock, Chief Executive of the Chartered College of Teaching, says of the toolkit:
